Specialist Technician - Competent to perform all tests in a department, perform routine, monthly and specialty maintenance and troubleshooting, file and /or resolve deviations from protocol, recognizes and performs appropriate action for abnormal tests results, proficient at LIS, uses appropriate PPE s, reports unsafe situations for patient or employee, and other general duties as related to the laboratory.

Generalist Technician – Competent in at least two departments, perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting, file reports when there is a deviation from protocol, recognizes and performs appropriate action for abnormal tests results, proficient at LIS, uses appropriate PPE s, reports unsafe situations for patient or employee, and other general duties as related to the laboratory.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum: A.S., MLT(ASCP) or equivalent

Preferred: B.S., MT (ASCP) or equivalent

Training/Experience: Successful passage of college program, eligible to sit for the MLT or MT exam, and must be certified within 12 months of taking position. One year of experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred. For weekend option and/ or 3rd shift, must qualify under CLIAA 88 as a laboratory general supervisor.

Operation of Equipment: The lab technician must be competent in the analyzers and computer systems of their assigned areas.

Critical Demands: Must be able to multi- task and be able to prioritize different types of patient specimens
