Community Health Systems Surgical Tech - Operating Room - Full Time Call in Ponca City, Oklahoma


Responsible for assisting in the care of patients under the direction of an RN or LPN in an operating room/surgery environment. Performs technical duties requiring the use of prescribed procedures and judgment in anticipation of the needs of the surgeon during procedures for all patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric ages. Gathers and prepares all required and anticipated supplies for any surgical procedures according to the physician s surgical preference cards along with other members of the surgical team. Has a firm and sound knowledge awareness of surgical technique. Cleans, packages, and prepares surgical instrumentation and supplies for sterilization using steam autoclaves, steris, evotech. Maintains a working knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures. Maintains a professional proficiency by active participation in in-service programs and seminars. Completes any other assigned duties requested by charge nurse or director.

Employees must also follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and AHPC; they must report hazards and initiate appropriate action; and must participate in safety instructional programs.

Education: Graduate of an accredited surgical tech program required. Must possess a high school diploma or GED and exhibit proficiency in patient care. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Scrub tech certification highly desired.

Experience: Desirable characteristics include at least one year of experience in the health care field. Must be able to follow instructions according to department and hospital standards under the supervision of a licensed medical professional. Must be emotionally mature and able to work under stressful conditions.

Skills: PC skills or applicable computer experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Must obtain and keep current CPR certification. Certification preferred. Must complete required department competencies through annual review.
