Community Health Systems Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery - 90% Days with Occasional Weekends in South Carolina


Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients of all ages through the use of the nursing process and through promotion, maintenance and teaching. Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the specialty area (Reports to Department Director) Notifies the Director of any problems in the unit. Takes charge of unit as needed (with appropriate competency). May be assigned on call to provide appropriate staff coverage. Floats to other nursing units assigned. Is responsible for getting to work for scheduled shifts in the event of inclement weather. Responsible for compliance with standards during assigned shift (Reports to House Supervisor) Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shift. Uses independent judgment to ensure optimaldelivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources.


Education :

  1. Successful completion of the initialSMH medication examination with a score of 90% or greater (if applies)

  2. Graduate of an accredited School ofProfessional Nursing.

  3. Completesannual orientation.

Desired Qualifications :

  1. --{PS..0}Must be able to demonstrate knowledgeand skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.

  2. Must demonstrate knowledge ofprinciples of growth and development over the life span and possess the abilityto assess data reflective of the patient s status and interpret appropriateinformation needed to identify each patient s requirement relative to the patient sneeds and to provide care needed as described to in policies and procedures.

  3. Tobe charge nurse in L&D – requires completing medical screening competencyand test and being checked off by OB provider.

Licenses/Certificates(All areas that apply will be checked):

■ Current Nursing License to be able topractice in the state of South Carolina

■ Current CPR certification - required.

□ L&D - ACLS - required for a charge nurserole

□ L&D & Nursery - NRP –Required within 6 months of hire

□ L&D- Fetal Monitoring – basic required within 90 days of hire and advanced within1 st year and every 2 years


□ Postpartum unit – ACLS required
