JOB SUMMARY

Responsible to ValleyCare Health System for supporting the corporate mission, vision and values. Responsible to Nursing Department for assisting in a collaborative team environment in the complete delivery of patient care through the utilization of communication skills, team work, conflict management and delegation. Responsible to the customer for courteous, accurate, timely service.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES

Performs all skills on Patient Care Technician Equipment/Skills Checklist.

Assists patients with activities of daily living

Collects specimens

Documents care provided according to charting guidelines

Under direction of Registered Nurse, provides high quality, cost-effective nursing care interdependently.

Collects, transports, stores and/or dispose of refuse related materials safely.

Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies as needed.

Stock supplies in the patient care area.

Provides nutritional support to the patient.

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE

High school graduate or GED required. Technical or vocational training preferred.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATIONAND/OR CERTIFICATION

Certification as Heartsaver by the American Heart Association required or obtain with six months of working in the job classification.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGEANDSKILLS

Broad knowledge in patient care. Knowledge of regulatory, legislative and JCAHO standards related to patient care.

LANGUAGEANDMATHSKILLS

Ability to read and follow simple verbal or written instructions, and write legibly. Ability to perform basic math (add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10 s and 100 s) using units of measure for weight, volume and distance. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

COMPUTER OPERATIONS

Basic personal computer skills.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTCARE

Assists patient with activities of daily living, treatments and care of the environment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Direct results of services not performed properly could harm or delay the patient s recovery.
