Description:

Under the general supervision of the Department Director, plans, directs & evaluates total nursing care & functions in the Operating Room in accordance with established philosophy. Responsible for the leading, training & management of personnel. Relates effectively with other departments/units for continuity of care; participates in all phases of educations, maintenance of records, & upgrading of policies, procedures & skills of personnel. Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the Operating Room. (Reports to the Surgical Services Director). Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care. Uses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources. Supervises the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies, staffing, training and management of employees. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must be currently licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

  • Must be current and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Must be current and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Must be current and maintain PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

  • CNOR preferred

Experience:

  • Three-five years of relevant experience in Surgical Services.

  • At least one year of Operating Room Charge Nurse experience.

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to the patient's needs and to provide care needed as described by MCE policy and procedure.
