Community Health Systems Buyer- FT Days in Birmingham, Alabama


Ensures supplies, equipment and services are sourced from CHS/HPG contracted vendors and/or at the lowest overall cost, considering quality and value, application, price, contract terms and other applicable expenses. Reviews requisitions for completeness, accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures. Processes purchase ordered in the MMIS, places and confirms orders for goods/services, expedites orders, resolves billing and payment issues, and organizes updates and retains files and purchase order records per CHS retention policy.



Bachelor s degree and/or equivalent work experience; Certification preferred.

Knowledgeable of common business practices relating to the purchase, pricing, terms, shipment, taxes and payment for commodities and services, the Uniform Commercial Code, and principles/practices of large scale centralized purchasing.

Knowledge of medical supplies and equipment preferred.

Computer/keyboarding skills required to accurately and expeditiously enter data into the MMIS system and generate documents/reports.

Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

Customer focused; must demonstrate good customer service and interpersonal skills.

Possess ability to follow both oral and written instructions.

Perform tasks requiring problem-solving capability and close attention to detail; must be a self-directed individual with the skills to produce accurate work results within established timeframes. Must have the ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal guidance and direction as well as plan, organize and prioritize work tasks.


Previous buying experience of extensive experience in a service related position involving the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment and services. Prior healthcare purchasing experience preferred.
