Community Health Systems Medical Laboratory Scientist Day Shift M-F in Birmingham, Alabama
With minimal or no supervision, Medical Technologist will perform routine and non-routine laboratory tests in one or more sections of laboratory medicine according to department policies and professional standards. Medical Technologist will perform various qualitative and quantitative analysis of bodily materials such as blood, tissue, sputum and body fluid for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Will generate a high level of customer service, quality and safety. May serve as general supervisor if designated or needed.
Bachelors degree as Medical Technologist or BS degree in a related scientific field. Clinical rotation MT or MLS students are eligible for hire if they have successfully completed the lab section rotation and
One year satisfactory work experience as a MT or MLS in an accredited clinical laboratory is preferred. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, equipment as well as proficiency in performing laboratory procedures at a level generally acquired during three to six months on-the-job orientation and training. Analytical ability necessary in order to organize work and resolve problems in running routine laboratory tests following standard technical principles and methods. Ability to lead subordinate staff in performance of duties and meet regulatory, license and/or accreditation requirements.
Need registry or eligible for registry as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist. ASCP preferred. If registry eligible for certification as a medical technologist (or MLS) then, certification is required within the first 12 months of employment for employees hired after January 1, 2006.
