Develops and implements infection control policies designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks in the facility. Monitors patient care for compliance with established standards and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related education to staff.
The Infection Control Practitioner is a professional nurse who is responsible for ensuring compliance with state, federal and JCAHO standards relating to infection control. Reports to the Director of Quality Management and Regulatory Compliance. The Infection Control Practitioner is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the hospital wide infection control program. The Infection Control Practitioner collaborates with and acts as a consultant for the department managers and staff. Advises implements and evaluates measures necessary to prevent the spread of infections within the hospital and community.
Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department.
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
