Community Health Systems Clinical Document Improvement (CDI) Specialist - Part Time Weekends in Cedar Park, Texas


Located minutes from downtown Austin, CedarPark Regional Medical Center is a level IV Designated Trauma Center with morethan 600 healthcare professionals working together to provide inpatient, outpatient, surgical and emergency care for Cedar Park and thegreater Austin region.

Position Overview

We are currently looking for a ClinicalDocument Improvement (CDI) Specialist to join our team. This is a part time weekend shift position. The CDI Specialist providessupport of clinical documentation improvement activities in an effort tosupport accuracy and quality in the patient records at Cedar Park RegionalMedical Center and to ensure that coded diagnoses are an accurate reflection ofthe patient's clinical status and care.

Responsibilities include (but are notlimited to):

  • Performance of inpatient medical recordaudits

  • Issuance of compliant, CHS-approved,best-practice physician documentation clarification requests

  • Tracking and reporting CDIS activities

  • Development and delivery of physician,coder and CDIS education through a variety of modalities

  • Providing coders, senior leadership andfacility personnel orientation to documentation improvement activities


  • Degree concentration in Health InformationManagement, Health Care Administration, Nursing (BSN), or comparable clinical degreeprogram. Master s degree highly desired

  • Must be currently licensed/certified as oneof the following:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Registered HealthInformation Administrator (RHIA)

  • Registered Health Information Technician(RHIT)

  • CDIP, CCDS, CCS and ICD-10 certifications ordesignation preferred

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience inclinical documentation improvement, ICD-9-CM and DRGs required

  • At least two (2) years of experience inproviding physician and coder education in an acute care setting preferred

  • Minimum of one (1) year auditing experiencepreferred

  • Previous experience working in a clinicaldocumentation improvement department or as a consultant strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diseaseprocesses and clinical competency is required to ensure success in performingjob duties

  • Thorough knowledge of documentation requirementsand coding guidelines

  • Must possess the ability to defineproblems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Must demonstrate data quality and integrityskills

  • Knowledge of word processing software,spreadsheet software and reporting software. Also, extensive experience workingwith an encoder is required

  • Ability to communicate effectively at ahigh level is required
