Department Description

Our labor and delivery staff havespecialized experience in childbirth support and newborn care. The Women'sServices unit is composed of 6 labor rooms, 2 ante partum rooms, 18 postpartumrooms, 3 triage beds and 8 NICU bassinets. We also have a certified lactationconsultant on-staff to assist when needed.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking anexperienced NICU Registered Nurse to join our team! This is a full time night shift position.


  • Based on nursing assessment, collaborates tocreate, modify and re-prioritize patient plan of care as necessary

  • Recognizes and reports changes in thepatient's clinical condition. Identifiesactual and potential health problems and their implications based on observeddata/signs

  • Recognizes implications of abnormal diagnostictests and follows through (lab, NST, OCT, US, x-rays/scans, vital signs)

  • Proficient at Gestational/Age MaturityRating Scale, Neonatal Abstinence Scoring, breast/bottle feeding, GlucoseProtocol, bathing and daily care, oxygen setup, discharge teaching/planning,circumcision care/teaching and PKU

  • Promptly identifies and interprets subtleand early indicators of crisis situation and intervenes (e.g. recognizes patientchanges when precipitous delivery is imminent and prepares for deliver)

  • Proficient with equipment specific tonursery, radiant warmers, incubators, Bili lights, bili blankets, Spacelabs andDinemapp vital signs machines, scales and pulse oximeters

  • Demonstrates competency to manage all areasof emergency nursing involving different body systems within age specificcriteria

  • Responds to additional unit needs duringcrisis and coordinates neonatal transport

  • Documents findings and communicates allpertinent information to interdisciplinary team members as appropriate

  • Provides education topatients/families/significant others, incorporating age-specific criteria and assessmentof readiness to learn

  • Performs Point of Care procedures in atimely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complieswith all Point of Care quality control standards

  • Delegates appropriately to non-licensedstaff in accordance with job descriptions, license requirements, and standardsof practice

  • Participates in developing other staff andaffiliating students

  • Demonstrates willingness to Cross-trainand/or assist other areas of the hospital accepting assignments withincompetency level, as needed


  • Minimum of an Associate s degree in Nursing(ADN) from an accredited RN program. Bachelor s degree in Nursing (BSN)preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse inTexas, or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA)approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. NeonatalResuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 days of hire
