Community Health Systems Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant -Trauma/General Surgery in Fort Wayne, Indiana

We are looking to create a team of advanced providers for Trauma and Acute Care Surgery coverage at Lutheran Hospital. The candidate should be a highly motivated individual with a desire to improve patient care/outcomes. This individual would respond to all traumas at Lutheran. They will cover the ICU all hours; respond to consults, and first-assist in the OR. They are responsible for collaborating with the surgeon on call, performing bedside procedures, and rounding in the ICU. The patient population consists of general surgical patients, patients with traumatic injuries, and critically ill patients with surgical needs. Ideally, the candidate would have previous critical care experience, but this is not required. Training materials are provided as well as a lengthy orientation period so that the individual is competent in the required skills. Procedural skills include tube thoracostomy placement, arterial line placement, central line placement, PEG tube placement, percutaneous tracheostomy placement, etc.

This position will work 10-12 hour shifts on a varied balanced rotating schedule.

Will be asked to provide occasional coverage of fellow NP/PA shifts.

Qualifications

NURSE PRACTITIONER:

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with completion of a Master s degree in Nursing. If credentialed under other guidelines, the NP must be able to attain certifications and re-certification as a Family NP; minimal educational preparation under this arrangement is the Master of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications/Licenses:

Must possess a current State of Indiana Nursing registration. Must have current certification as a NP or be registered to take the next-offered certification examination. Individuals awaiting the results of the certification exam may be hired, pending successful completion of the exam.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of general nursing experience. Prefer one year of critical care experience.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a master s degree in Physician Assistant studies.

Certifications/Licenses:

Must have current certification as a PA or be registered to take certification examination after graduation from an accredited program. Individuals awaiting the results of the certification exam may be hired, pending successful completion of the exam.

Experience: Prefer general surgery, trauma, and critical care experience.
