Community Health Systems Security Officer - La Porte - PRN, All Shifts in La Porte, Indiana


This position exists to provide for the protection and safety of all persons, assets and property on the organizational campus. This position actively engages in the prevention and detection of criminal activity and any activity adverse to the health care environment. This position is responsible for investigating incidents and enforcing all operating policies and procedures of the organization.


High School Diploma or Equivalent.

CPR certified.

Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.

Certified in Nonviolent crisis intervention, required within 3 months of hire.

Experience in patrolling all areas of a facilities property as required with investigative and interview experience.

911 call experience and coordination with law enforcement.

Good computer and word processing skills, with the ability to integrate new data, write reports, and provide excellent customer service.

Skills with electronic communications and monitoring of devices.

Provides a visual deterrent to crime and abides by all facility policies and guidelines.

Monitors the conduct of individuals on facility property (and vehicles in traffic and parking areas) and engages the individuals for questioning as needed.

Escorts persons upon request to promote a safe and secure environment.

Responds to directives to address disruptive behavior and takes appropriate action to safely diffuse a situation, when possible.

Demonstrates interpersonal people skills and have the ability to remain calm and in control in crisis situations.

Cooperates with Law Enforcement, calling 911 as appropriate.

Actively participates in investigations and writes accurate, clear, legible and timely incident reports.

Follows and supports security reporting and procedures and immediately reports safety, fire hazards and security violations to Security Shift Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Follows established procedure for securing lost and found articles until properly logged and returned to rightful owner.

Responds to all emergency codes including fire alarm (“Code Red ) overhead pages. Initiates individual department fire drills when scheduled during all shifts, as applicable. Performs fire extinguisher checks and other life safety duties as requested/scheduled and immediately reports any discrepancies to Security Shift Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

For Security Officer Personnel, engage in professional growth and development through participation of membership in IAHSS (International Association of Hospital Security and Safety organization), or attending In-service workshops as provided by the hospital.
