Community Health Systems Certified Pharmacy Tech - PRN in Ponca City, Oklahoma


The Pharmacy Services Tech II has completed OSPB Phase II training and performs tasks in the Pharmacy which requires OSPB permit. Non-judgmental, technical, manipulative, non-discretionary functions will be performed under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist. Also performs functions as outlined for a Tech I. Primary responsibilities include controlled drug inventory maintenance, unit dosing, IV preparation, unit dose fill and prescription processing. Accurate assistance of pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to both in-patients and out-patients. Computer entry and processing of patient drug orders; sterile and non-sterile preparations of liquids and solid dosage forms; care and ordering of supplies and equipment; training of trainees; processing of admittance, discharge and transfer of patient information; performing miscellaneous related tasks. A Technician II exemplifies through values, beliefs and practices a Service Care philosophy toward patients, visitors/families, physicians, department-to–department and staff -to-staff. He/She demonstrates in verbal interactions and nonverbal behavior compassion, respect and an understanding of human worth, dignity and spirit

Recognizes and adheres to scope of practice of a pharmacy technician. Processes and fills all medications for both patients and Pyxis distribution under the supervision of a pharmacist. Prepares IV medications utilizing sterile technique. Basic medication order entry. Use of pharmacy operating system to prepare orders; generate labels, debit and credit medications and look up patient information. Assists customers at the issue window. Retrieves prescriptions, files, or information as requested. Enters charges, types, updates patient profiles. Answers telephone, makes phone calls as requested. Maintains files on drug information and other filing as requested. Keeps records and maintains accounts as assigned. Controls inventory including monitoring, pricing, dating, invoicing, and stocking pharmacy, purchase order preparations, and electronic order entry to wholesaler. Maintains a clean and orderly pharmacy.

Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding person, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of PCMC. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and PCMC. Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Education:High school diploma or GED equivalent education and exhibit proficiency in patient care and oral communication skills. A current OSPB “Pharmacy Technician : permit is required. Successfully completes the sterile products training curriculum within 6 months of starting employment. Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT).

Experience:Desirable characteristics include a proficiency in written and verbal communications, mathematical calculations, typing of not less than 40 words per minute, computer literate, possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. An ability to perform within time frame without loss of accuracy. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must have at least 2 years experience as a pharmacy technician to be hired directly into position.

Skills:PC skills or applicable computer experience.

Licenses/Certifications:Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy Permit required.
