Develops and implements infection control policies designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks in the facility. Monitors patient care for compliance with established standards and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related education to staff. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Provides an active, effective hospital-wide Infection PreventionProgram that consists of surveillance, prevention and control of healthcareassociated infections. Responsible for participating in Infection Prevention activitiesin collaboration with other professional disciplines to ensure effective andefficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patientoutcomes. Works independently to analyze surveillance findings and trendsand researches evidence-based interventional strategies to address areasneeding improvement. Develops and presents educational programs designed to change caregiverpractices based on surveillance findings and evidence-based protocols.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with BSN preferred and required within two years of employment. At least five years experience as a Registered Nurse. Required current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
