Description:

The job description and criteria based job performance evaluation emphasizes the criteria expected in the performance of the Aerobics Instructor. The Aerobics Instructor will establish and lead innovative classes based upon the latest in scientific research and current industry standards. The Aerobics Instructor assists in carrying out responsibilities as directed and ensures harmonious rapport between members and employees.

Qualifications

Experience:

One year of aerobic teaching experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

All staff in an Aerobic Instructor position must obtain certification in the respective areas in which they teach. If an instructor teaches more than one type of class, they must obtain a group exercise certification, or, obtain certification from each area that they instruct. Accepted certifications for Aerobic Instructors are as follows:

Aerobic Instructors : Certified through ACE (American Council on Exercise) or AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) Group Fitness Instructor.

Les Mills Program Instructors : Certified through Les Mills.

Cycling Instructors : Certified in Cycling.

Water Aerobic Instructors : Certified through AEA or USWFA.

Yoga Instructors : Yoga Certification will be required and the certification organization will be at the discretion of the Group Exercise Coordinator.

Instructors who teach classes that do not require a specific teaching format or choreography, i.e. Abs class, Boot Camp, will need to be certified through one of the following organizations: ACSM, ACE (Certified Personal Trainer or Group Exercise Instructor), AFAA (Certified Personal Trainer or Primary Group Exercise Certification), or NSCA (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist).
