Summary: Administers specified evaluations, conducts group programs, and assists in implementing specific treatment programs under the guidance of a Licensed Occupational Therapist.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assists in conducting specified treatment activities; observes patients in treatment activities and reports observations to supervising Occupational Therapist

  2. Independently and autonomously follows treatment plan and occupational therapy program for each patient which may include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, ADL training, neuromuscular reeducation, and other treatment modalities

  3. Designs and fits adaptive devices such as splints and braces for patient use, based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs. Instruct and educate patient regarding adaptive device, therapeutic exercise and home exercise program

  4. Consults with other members of rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate activity program for individual patients, based on patient needs and capabilities

  5. Assesses patient's progress on an ongoing basis and adjusts treatment techniques within the scope of the plan of care

  6. Timely and accurately documents patient care by documenting patient progress and treatment on the daily notes. Notifies Occupational Therapist regarding patient concerns

  7. Meets departmental productivity standards on a consistent basis

  8. Communicates with medical and allied health personnel regarding patient's progress, needs and discharge planning

  9. Conducts and/or participates in educational programs, in-services, training other medical personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives

  10. Demonstrates proficiency with hospital wide and/or department specific computer software and technology

Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree from an accredited program for occupational therapy assistants.

Experience: One (1) year of related experience.

Skills: Computer literacy; good verbal and written communication skills, May use power tools

Licenses/Certification: Certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in Arizona; AHA BLS.
