Patient SafetyServices (Clinical Risk Management/Patient Safety) can be defined as theidentification, analysis and evaluation of risks and the selection of the mostadvantageous method of correcting, reducing or eliminating identifiablerisks. The purpose of the hospitalclinical risk management function is to coordinate and facilitate theactivities to prevent and/or minimize losses associated with identifiable risks,and to minimize and prevent claims of general and professional liabilityagainst the hospital. In so doing, theloss prevention function focuses on and promotes patient safety. The clinical risk management activities mayalso include those associated with automobile claims and safety claims.

The Coordinator isresponsible for assisting in the administration of Wilkes –Barre GeneralHospital and Berwick Hospital facility s risk management activities whichinclude assisting with the management of general and professional liabilityclaims against the facility, interfacing with defense counsel, interfacing withCHS Risk Management and Legal Departments, administering the clinical riskmanagement program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing riskmanagement data. S/he is responsible forassisting in coordinating the hospital s Patient Safety Program, including:facilitating systems analysis to promote and improve patient safety, conductingand facilitating risk management educational programs based upon availabilityand identified needs and compliance with the state and federal laws andregulations and the JCAHO s standards relating to risk management and patientsafety.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse; Bachelor s Degree in nursing or other health care related field required.

Five (5) years experience in a health care related field including two (2) years patient safety/ performance (quality) improvement experience. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Ability to maintain the utmost level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to function in high stress situations. Demonstrated high level of performance on an independent basis. Ability to interpret regulatory and accreditation requirements; ability to assimilate large amounts of data; working knowledge of computers, including data input and analysis.

Current license in the state of Pennsylvania as a registered professional nurse
